Why Oxygen and Light?

Everyone knows the body is made of cells. Each cell has components that help it operate properly, and when these components are injured they create dysfunction. One of these components is the mitochondria, often called the “power house of the cell.” The mitochondria create the energy for the cell but this isn’t possible without oxygen. Oxygen moves through the mitochondria and help create energy in the form of ATP in a process called “cellular respiration.” When the cells become less functional, disorders and diseases can begin - or be made worse. Because oxygen “primes” the energy production process and basic nutrients help operate it, proper oxygen availability is critical to optimum cell function.

Of interest, this process also helps remove carbon dioxide and toxins from the cell and keep the “local” pH optimum.

What does hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) do? At its base HBOT helps our cells and tissues heal after injury, aging, and other traumas. HBOT provides benefits due to improved cell oxygen, energy, toxin removal, and epigenetic changes.

Photodynamic therapy (light therapy): There are many forms of light therapies used in medicine and aesthetics.

One light therapy useful in both medicine and aesthetics is red light therapy. Specifically this includes the red and near infrared end of the light spectrum.  Our cells and tissues respond to the wavelengths in this spectrum. Red - Near IR can stimulate collagen production, improve particular cell functions, and significantly reduce inflammation. This can potentially improve many healing factors.

Red light is often offered as a beauty treatment but is so much more. In medicine dermatologists use this therapy for a number of hair and skin conditions. The use of red light spectrum therapy can be incredibly supportive in many situations.
